Brenda Ferguson (July 9, 1959 – March 23, 2015 ) was always intrigued by hands and the stories they tell. One Hundred Hands was a shared artistic endeavor involving a series of 100 paintings. It was an opportunity for you to provide the images she painted...and a chance for Brenda to capture a moment in your time. On this blog she shared your images, the paintings they inspired and the process of creating them. She invited "you to join me, creating art together, hand in hand."

This is one of my favorite paintings for this project so far. It was a delight to paint from this cool image of newborn Baxter cradling a baseball.

Masterstroke 021

At Carol Marine's workshops, she graciously encourages participants to get close. I took full advantage of this opportunity to soak in everything Carol was saying and doing. Any closer and my nose would have been touching the canvas! I also had my One Hundred Hands project in mind. This is Carol doing a just happens to be the painting I came home with.

Catch of the Day 014

I loved this amusing photo. It shows fishing off a wharf in Whitianga, New Zealand. The baby fish is a Trevally. It was released and is hopefully now swimming around as an adult.

Party Girls 012

Our daughter Sadie celebrated her 14th birthday recently with a sleepover. Once her friends saw some of the paintings and heard more about this project, they were eager to participate. They got to work choosing colors and manicuring each other for their 'photo shoot.' Thanks girls...for being great sports and wonderful guests! The original painting is a gift for Sadie.

Making Strides 007

Mary sent in this image of her goddaughter and her boyfriend at a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. Mary's best friend, her goddaughter's mother, is a cancer survivor. Mary says, "Whenever I think of hands, I think of this picture and the love it represents." I think that says it all.

To Market 005

Photographer, Barbara Motter, sent this photo of a trip she took to China 25 years ago. When I began this project, it hadn't occurred to me that I might be painting hands from all over the world!

My dear friend, Kathy Mallat, is a children's book author and illustrator as well as a fine artist.

First Day 002

Ever since our three children began school, I've taken their photo next to our front door. It's been a fun way to watch their physical growth through the years. This was taken on our son Lucas' first day of high school.
