This is Jen. She's my friend, an ex-colleague in my past education life and one of the best teachers I know. Her mom got this painting for her as a Christmas surprise and we pulled it off brilliantly if I must say!
Oil on panel, 6" x 6
Brenda Ferguson (July 9, 1959 – March 23, 2015 ) was always intrigued by hands and the stories they tell. One Hundred Hands was a shared artistic endeavor involving a series of 100 paintings. It was an opportunity for you to provide the images she painted...and a chance for Brenda to capture a moment in your time. On this blog she shared your images, the paintings they inspired and the process of creating them. She invited "you to join me, creating art together, hand in hand."
WHEN:
I am currently collecting photos taken by you and will continue to do this for the duration of the project. I will select 100 photos to paint. Though sending a photo does not guarantee that it will be included in the project, I hope you will consider sharing your photo with me and watching this process unfold.
WHAT:
Each 5” x 7” painting will be created in soft pastel, matted and ready to frame in a standard 8" x 10" frame (paintings arrive matted, not framed). Unless otherwise noted**, each pastel painting is available for $65 plus $7 shipping/packaging in the US, $16 international. (**Paintings done in oil on panel are $100 plus $12 US shipping) If you wish to purchase a painting, you may contact me at brenda@brendaferguson.com or 207-257-4215.
HOW:
Photo Requirements:
1. Color photos only please. The photos should be original images taken by you rather than a professional photographer.
By sending a photo you are granting me permission to share the photo and painting on my blog. You will not be identified by your full name.
2. Natural light (as opposed to flash) is best; it creates more interesting shadows.
3. Digital images (at least 600 pixels) are preferred, sent to: brenda@brendaferguson.com. I will also consider photos sent by mail to
Please note photos will not be returned.
4. Send the entire photo, uncropped. I will crop as necessary to focus on the story of your hands. See examples of photos and hand art below.
